Accessibility

Caligo Mundi seeks to be a disability-friendly community where possible. While we are limited by club resources and what volunteers can provide, what we can provide here is transparency, in the spirit of cultivating accessibility as a shared value.

The following is a non-exhaustive list. Please refer to the calendar page for specific venue accessibility information. For any questions, please email caligoboard@gmail.com or contact the STs for the game in question.

Mobility

Most games run for approximately 3.5 hours, during which people are often standing, moving around the room, or seated.
Seats are often available which can be moved around the room as needed for players who need to remain seated, or to make room for people’s own mobility devices.
Any and all actions performed by a character can be described rather than physically acted out.
Other information about venue accessibility (such as wheelchair access) will be included with specific venue information. We note that unfortunately venues and access do sometimes change according to whatโ€™s available to us.

Visual

Most freeforms are not fully dependent on vision for play. However there is a portion of written content for all games. Usually this can be delivered in advance so that players can navigate this information with their own resources and time, but if you have any particular concerns we encourage you to get in contact.
Some games use dice or cards as a randomiser mechanic and encourage players to bring their own. Players can ask Storytellers to roll or draw for them, if the player does not own cards or dice that suit their particular vision impairments.

Financial

We strive to keep this club financially accessible by keeping our attendance costs as low as possible.
First game session is free. Ticket prices are $10 for all regular events, this is to cover venue costs and keep our club running.
For special events, attendance costs vary.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns on this front as sometimes arrangements can be made.

Social / Neurodiversity

Caligo has always been inclusive of neurodiversity. Though not all identify with that label, it is best to enter the space with the knowledge that many within the club will have shared experiences and needs.
What is most important is that prospective members still have the ability to read through and abide by the Code of Conduct here; and that players are capable of and consent to deal with mature themes.
Other information which may be of use:

– Advertised game โ€œstart timesโ€ are actually when the venue room is opened for players to start trickling in. Storytellers then spend approximately 30 minutes or a bit longer setting up the space for play before beginning.
Many players use this time to acclimatise to the room, prepare or complete any costuming or makeup in nearby bathrooms, and to warm up socially by saying hello out-of-character (but there is no requirement to talk if you need to observe the space quietly first.)

– Some established members of the club are happy to mentor new players as part of a buddy system, to make the club environment more friendly for newcomers. Please email us if youโ€™re interested in this and weโ€™ll put you in touch!ย

Hearing / Auditory

Talking and listening are pivotal components to games.

Larger games can be higher in volume, due to a number of people talking all at once in a shared room. This can vary based on player numbers and venue acoustics. Sometimes, atmospheric music is also played at a low volume in the background.
Best information on what to expect can be found by asking current players or STs what to expect for a game you plan to attend. Some recent games have had an average of between 20-30 players per game.

When needed, players and storytellers can and do step out of the room for smaller and quieter conversations to be had more easily, and to disperse noise between spaces.

Respite areas

During sessions, at least one area close by will be available for people to take breaks โ€œout of characterโ€. Players are always welcome and encouraged to step into and out of these spaces when needed.
