In the school medbay there is a closed-off section with a medical pod inside. Inside that, a young man just entering his teenage years, his eyes closed, his body clearly in a state of distress.

As with any school, rumours run rampant about what's actually wrong with him. Twice now his broken body has been pulled out of the Phalanx's clutches, and it's going around that they experimented on him. Or maybe tortured him. Or maybe both. Or perhaps he has the Legacy Virus, which is why he's in isolation.

You can ask him yourself, though. Unlike most every other coma patient, he can clearly be seen walking the school grounds, attending classes, and trying to pass for as normal as you can get in this environment. Looking perhaps a little younger than his body, a rather short boy of twelve or thirteen, with (mostly) neat brown hair and (mostly) tidy clothing, the mobile version usually looks strange, a little ... fuzzy. And it takes a couple of seconds when first encountering him to realise that's because he doesn't cast shadows properly, or make a sound, or walk on grass as much as through it. With a little effort he can fix the first two, but the third one always remains. It's not hard to tell that he's not actually there, and while he can make the effort to cast shadows and have footsteps, he cannot make footprints.

One of the youngest students, friendly enough in his melancholy way, he will introduce himself as Martin with the British accent of someone accustomed to saying 'Awfully sorry'.

And he doesn't know what's wrong with him either. Just that if he wasn't here, if it wasn't for this school, he would be dead.
