Frequently Asked Questions
♠ Q: Is Revenant's End set on Earth?
A: No. While we have borrowed aesthetics from the late 1800s Old West, we are not interacting with the political landscape of the real world United States in that time frame.
♥ Q: Is Revenant's end a Deadlands/Firefly/[Insert other IP here] game? Do I need knowledge of those settings to play?
A: Nope! Revenant's End has been built from the ground up as an original IP and system, so everyone is on an even footing as far as world knowledge.
♣ Q: What do you mean by "Weird West?"
A: Weird West is a hybrid genre, combining the Western genre with horror, fantasy, or science fiction. Or in the case of Revenant's End; all three. In addition to Saloon Keepers, Preachers, Cattle Wranglers, and Gunslingers players may also take up the pursuits of Mad Science or dabble in the Occult. The threats of the world are also expanded to encompass the supernatural - including, but not limited to, the Restless Dead.
♦ Q: How much should my character know about the Restless Dead?
A: Relatively little. Undead of any stripe are a vanishingly rare occurrence outside of with the Wild lands of the West. While the supernatural is real & the powers of witchcraft and divinity are known to all, the animate dead are not a thing that folks who have yet to set foot towards the West will likely have encountered. For your characters, maybe rumours of such things are stories to scare the faint of heart into staying in the bosom of civilisation, or maybe they are a brand new field of study to explore.
♠ Q: I have an idea for a character who [insert Epic character concept here], can I play this in Revenant's End?
A: We would advise that characters at the start of Revenant's End are regular humans who are looking to make a new life for themselves somewhere out West. Make sure to leave room for your character to learn and grow with the town & tell their story in-game. As a team we would love to hear your character concepts and the stories you hope to tell with them.
♥ Q: Will there be tabletop sections of the game?
A: Also No. While there will be opportunities to ride out of town & have isolated scenes, there will not be dedicated sessions for those activities, nor will there be tabletop sections. Life in Revenant continues while you are out seekin' your fortune.
♣ Q: What are the costume expectations for this game?
A: As is often the case in Caligo Mundi games costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. A simple and accessible costume for Revenant's End might be blue denim and a plaid shirt. Folks are very welcome to get more extravagant in realising the aesthetics of the genre. You may also consult with GMs & your fellow players in the Costumin' channel on the Discord.
♦ Q: I have a fancy six-shooter prop to bring that would be perfect for my character, can I bring it?
A: Unfortunately Victoria's laws on imitation firearms are quite strict, and although we will have the venue to ourselves - Bargoonga Nganjin (North Fitzroy Library) is still a public venue. For the safety of all concerned & the club's good relations with our venue, we ask that you Do Not bring any type of firearm or other weapon prop to Revenant's End.
♠ Q: Respectfully, what's up with that Forbidden Knowledge talent?
A: It wouldn't be very "forbidden knowledge" if we just told you, now would it?
